Nottingham Forest have reached a verbal agreement to sign Liam Delap from Chelsea, with the transfer now moving towards completion.
The deal is understood to be worth around £45 million, with the clubs agreeing on the main terms of the transfer. Delap has also given the green light to the move after speaking with Nottingham Forest head coach Oliver Glasner about the club’s project and his role in the team.
A medical has already been booked, with Forest now preparing to complete the remaining formalities before the transfer can be officially confirmed.
Softfootball understands that Delap was attracted by the opportunity to play a more prominent role under Glasner, with regular first-team football expected to be an important factor behind his decision to leave Chelsea.
The England international joined Chelsea as part of the club’s attacking plans, but the arrival of several forwards has increased competition for places. Forest’s willingness to make a significant investment demonstrates their determination to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.
The transfer is also part of a busy period for Forest in the market. The club have been working on several deals as Glasner continues to shape his squad and build a team capable of competing for European football.
Forest have also reached an agreement worth around €40 million for Sporting defender Ousmane Diomande, further underlining their ambition in the transfer window.
