Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has expressed pride at working alongside Cole Palmer, describing the 22-year-old as a different breed compared to other star forwards in the Premier League.
Palmer has been instrumental in Chelsea’s surprise rise to second place in the table, contributing 11 goals and six assists in just 15 appearances so far this season.
Softfootball reports that his composure was on full display once again with a cheeky chipped penalty during last weekend’s comeback win over Tottenham.
Maresca, who previously worked with Palmer at Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad, spoke glowingly about his forward’s temperament under pressure. He said:
I feel very proud and privileged to work with Cole.
Cole is a different one to the rest.
Many top players have that way, they look like they almost don’t care, but it’s just their way.
Asked whether Palmer could be considered the best player currently playing in England, Maresca offered a measured response. He added:
At this moment, he could be, but England are lucky because there are so many good players and Cole is one of them.
Absolutely he can be world class, but he is only 22 and there are many things he can improve.
