Manchester City have officially appointed Enzo Maresca as their new head coach. The Italian has signed a three-year contract at the Etihad Stadium, succeeding Pep Guardiola after the legendary manager brought his remarkable spell at the club to an end.

As part of the agreement, Manchester City will pay Chelsea more than £17 million (€20 million) in compensation to secure Maresca’s services, Softfootball understands.

The 46-year-old is no stranger to the club, having previously led City’s Elite Development Squad to the Premier League 2 title in 2020/21 before serving as Pep Guardiola’s assistant during the club’s historic treble-winning campaign in 2022/23.

Speaking after his appointment, Maresca said:

Manchester City is a club I know very well and to have the chance to manage this team is a brilliant opportunity for me. City is an incredibly well-run football club. Everything they do is innovative, planned and purposeful. For a manager, that is a dream situation. It provides the consistency I need to do my job effectively.

With the agreement now sealed, City move into a new era following one of the most successful managerial spells in Premier League history.
