Manchester City have been dealt another injury setback after confirming that defender Ruben Dias will be unavailable for up to four weeks with a muscular injury.

Softfootball reports manager Pep Guardiola revealed the news during his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s Premier League trip to Aston Villa.

Dias sustained the injury during City’s recent Manchester derby defeat to Manchester United, despite battling through the discomfort before eventually being substituted after 75 minutes.

Ruben Dias will be out for three or four weeks. It’s muscular. He played 75 minutes against United and he felt something, but he is so strong and wanted to stay on the pitch,

Guardiola said.

The Portuguese defender’s absence comes at a difficult time for City as they look to regain momentum in both the Premier League and other competitions.

However, Guardiola also provided a positive fitness update, confirming that Manuel Akanji and John Stones have resumed training after recovering from their respective injuries.

I don’t know yet if they will start on Saturday. Yesterday was their first training session,

Guardiola added, leaving open the possibility of both defenders featuring against Aston Villa.
