Manchester City have issued a strong statement condemning the racist abuse aimed at defender Kyle Walker in the aftermath of Wednesday’s 2-0 Champions League defeat to Juventus.
Walker faced a wave of online abuse following the result, which left City languishing in 22nd place in the competition standings after a difficult run of form.
Softfootball has learned that the club moved quickly to voice its support for the defender. The club said:
We refuse to tolerate discrimination of any kind, regardless of whether that be in stadiums or online.
We will be offering Kyle our full support following the disgusting treatment he has received.
The Premier League also weighed in on the matter, reinforcing that such behaviour has no place in football or wider society.

Walker had earlier shared screenshots of the abuse on his own social media, writing:
No one should ever be subject to the sort of vile, racist, and threatening abuse I have received online since last night’s match.
