New Liverpool signing Giorgi Mamardashvili has made it clear he intends to battle Alisson Becker for the club’s first-choice goalkeeper position when he officially joins the Reds ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Softfootball added that Liverpool secured the 24-year-old’s signature from Valencia in a deal worth an initial £25 million, with a further £4 million in add-ons, before allowing him to remain on loan at the La Liga club for the current campaign.
Mamardashvili admitted Liverpool’s long-term project convinced him to move to Anfield and insisted he is determined to compete for the starting role regardless of Alisson’s status at the club.
The Georgia international stressed that he has no intention of settling for a backup role and is prepared to fight for his place when he arrives next summer.
