The Nigerian international was the standout performer, scoring twice and providing two assists in a breathtaking first-half display that left Verona with no answers. It was another impressive outing for Lookman, who has now taken his Serie A tally to four goals in six appearances this season.

Atalanta wasted no time asserting their dominance, opening the scoring in the sixth minute after Lookman’s intelligent cutback found Marten de Roon, who calmly slotted home. Just three minutes later, Mateo Retegui capitalised on a loose ball at the edge of the area to double the hosts’ advantage with a composed finish.

The pressure continued as Charles De Ketelaere made it 3-0 in the 14th minute, producing brilliant footwork before curling a superb effort into the far corner.

Lookman then got on the scoresheet himself, driving into the penalty area with pace and confidence before firing past the goalkeeper. The Nigerian completed a remarkable first-half display by grabbing his second goal with a simple tap-in after another swift Atalanta attacking move, taking his personal contribution to two goals and two assists before the break.

Verona managed to pull one back through Amin Sarr in the 42nd minute, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation.

Although Atalanta eased off after the interval, they still added a sixth goal as Retegui completed his brace with a close-range finish to cap another dominant display from Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

Lookman’s electric performance further strengthens his case as one of Serie A’s most influential attackers this season and will be another major boost for both Atalanta and the Super Eagles ahead of upcoming fixtures.
