Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has advised the club to shift its transfer strategy towards signing mature players.
The Blues currently sit sixth in the Premier League and have been eliminated from domestic cups, leaving the Conference League as their only remaining hope for silverware this season. Softfootball reports that Lampard believes the squad lacks an experienced spine.
Lampard argued that relying heavily on young signings from abroad places undue pressure on both the players and the manager.
He emphasized that developing multiple teenagers simultaneously is a difficult task, especially in a competitive environment where immediate results are expected from a club of Chelsea’s stature and ambition.
He explained his view by stating:
You have to be very careful to point fingers at the manager himself or point fingers at young players that are trying to find form in a team that hasn’t really got an experienced spine there that they can rely on and look up to.
This highlights the need for veteran leadership.
