Softfootball can confirm Chelsea forward Joao Pedro has been named the EA Sports Premier League Player of the Month for August 2026 after making an outstanding start to the new season.
The award is the first Premier League Player of the Month honour of the Brazilian striker’s career, while he also becomes the first Chelsea player to win the prize in almost two years.
Cole Palmer was the last Chelsea player to claim the individual award, winning his second Player of the Month prize in September 2024. The England international was nominated again for the August 2026 award but finished behind his Chelsea teammate in the public vote.
Joao Pedro’s victory comes after a flying start to Chelsea’s 2026/27 Premier League campaign, with the Brazilian registering four goal contributions across the club’s opening two league matches.
His performances played a major role in Chelsea securing victories in both games, immediately establishing himself as one of the standout attacking players at the beginning of the new campaign.
Joao Pedro opened his account in spectacular fashion during Chelsea’s opening fixture away at Fulham, finding the net just 33 seconds after the match began. He later turned provider, setting up Palmer for the winning goal as Chelsea secured all three points.
The Brazilian continued his impressive form in Chelsea’s first home Premier League match of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Joao Pedro once again found the back of the net before providing an assist for Palmer, who scored the decisive goal. Across the opening two matches, his combination of goals and assists helped Chelsea maintain a perfect start to their league campaign.
Those performances earned him recognition from supporters around the world, who were given the opportunity to vote for their preferred candidate for the August Player of the Month award.
Joao Pedro ultimately finished ahead of Palmer and six other shortlisted players to claim the prestigious individual prize.
The award provides further recognition of the impact Joao Pedro has made at Chelsea since joining the club and represents an encouraging beginning to his latest Premier League campaign.
With the Brazilian already combining effectively with Palmer and producing decisive contributions in front of goal, Chelsea will hope his early-season form continues as Xabi Alonso’s side targets a successful 2026/27 campaign.
