Cristiano Ronaldo has once again sparked debate after recent comments about his influence on the growth of the Saudi Pro League, with reactions pouring in across social media and football circles.

The Al Nassr forward, who recently reflected on his journey and called for calm around discussions about the league, remains a central figure in its rapid rise.

The Portuguese star also continues to make history on the pitch, recently reaching an incredible milestone as he moved closer to 1000 career goals, hitting 970 goals in total after helping Al Nassr secure a 2-0 victory over Al Ahli. His performances continue to draw global attention, reinforcing his status as one of football’s greatest icons.

Reacting to Ronaldo’s earlier statement, a popular football content creator D real Kombo pushed back strongly in a video on his youtube channel.

He said;

I will speak at the end of the season about many real matters. I was the first to come to this league and the rest came because of me. They must respect the referees even if they make mistakes. They are human and they do errors… I understand that you are a very proud guy, you like to boost your ego and tell yourself you are the main man, but let’s be honest, most of the players that went to the Saudi Pro League went there because of the money being offered.

There is no other league paying that kind of salary. Yes, you have influence, nobody is denying that, but the major reason is money. If another league like MLS offered the same money, players would go there too. Even you went there because of the money.

That same money attracted other players. So calm down, nobody is taking away your greatness, but it’s not you that carried them there, it’s the money. People watch because you are there, yes, but what brought the players is the money. If that money was not there, nobody would follow you.

Ronaldo’s presence has undeniably boosted the visibility of the Saudi league, especially following his move from Manchester United, but debates like this continue to highlight the bigger picture where financial power, global stars, and league ambition all intersect.

Softfootball believes that while Ronaldo’s influence has played a major role in attracting global attention, the financial strength of the Saudi Pro League remains the biggest driving force behind the influx of top players, with both elements combining to shape the league’s current identity.
