Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has offered his assessment of the club’s dramatic dip in form, insisting a combination of small and significant factors has contributed to the champions’ disappointing run this season.

City have won just one of their last 12 matches in all competitions, suffering nine defeats during that spell to leave themselves 12 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool heading into Boxing Day. Softfootball understands Guardiola addressed the club’s struggles during his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash with Everton.

Reflecting on City’s poor run, Guardiola said:

It is about many little details or some big details that make us not as good as we were. But we have another opportunity on Boxing Day. We have players coming back and at a certain time, we will be better.

The Spaniard also defended star striker Erling Haaland, insisting the team’s struggles should not be blamed on one individual. He said:

It is about us, not just one player. When you have problems at the back and middle, it is all about the team, not just one player. Erling is so important for us and we need to use him better

Guardiola remains optimistic City can rediscover their best form as injured players return and the second half of the campaign unfolds.
