Former Chelsea executive Marina Granovskaia has thrown her support behind new England manager Thomas Tuchel, expressing confidence that he can lead the Three Lions to major silverware.
Tuchel recently succeeded Gareth Southgate, who stepped down after England’s defeat to Spain in the final of UEFA Euro 2024. Softfootball noted that the German tactician’s appointment has generated widespread debate, with many former players and pundits insisting the Football Association should have appointed an English manager.
Despite the criticism, Granovskaia believes Tuchel has the pedigree to succeed at international level, having previously worked closely with him during his time at Chelsea.
Reacting to the appointment on Instagram, the former Chelsea director shared a photograph of herself and Tuchel celebrating the club’s UEFA Champions League triumph in 2021 alongside the caption: “Thomas knows trophies.”
She also congratulated both Tuchel and England, adding that the appointment has made the build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup even more exciting.
Tuchel enjoyed a successful spell at Chelsea, guiding the Blues to Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup glory before leaving Stamford Bridge.
Tuchel now tasked with ending England’s long wait for a major international trophy, expectations will be high as preparations begin for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
