Softfootball understands that 18-year-old Egyptian striker Hamza Abdelkarim, listed internationally as Abdelkader, has made history by becoming the youngest player ever to represent Egypt at the FIFA World Cup following his appearance at the 2026 tournament.

The achievement marks another milestone in the youngster’s rapid development, with Abdelkarim already attracting significant attention at club level.

Barcelona initially secured the forward on loan from Egyptian giants Al Ahly after recommendations from sporting director Deco and head of scouting João Amaral, both of whom viewed him as one of the most promising young talents in African football.

Impressed by his progress and potential, the Catalan club have now activated the €1.5 million purchase option included in the agreement, making his move permanent. The deal highlights Barcelona’s continued strategy of identifying and developing emerging talents at relatively low costs.

Abdelkarim’s growing reputation was further underlined during the World Cup, where he was pictured in action wearing Egypt’s iconic number 9 jersey. His involvement on football’s biggest stage reflects the confidence placed in him by both his national team and club.
