According to a post made on FIFA’s official X handle, Luka Modrić is set to add another chapter to his legendary international career at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Softfootball confirms.
FIFA statement:
A Croatian @FIFAWorldCup record-breaker 👏
As well as being his nation’s all-time FIFA World Cup appearance holder, Luka Modrić could also reach 200 caps for Croatia at FIFA World Cup 2026 🇭🇷

FIFA highlighted that Modrić is already Croatia’s all-time appearance holder at the World Cup and could also reach the remarkable milestone of 200 international caps during the tournament in North America.
The veteran midfielder was named in Croatia’s 26-man World Cup squad by Zlatko Dalić on May 18, putting him on course to feature in his fifth World Cup. The squad also includes Ivan Perišić, who has scored at each of the last three World Cup tournaments.

Modrić remains one of the most decorated players of his generation and will once again be expected to play a key role as Croatia aim for another deep run on football’s biggest stage.
Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti has officially called up Ederson to Brazil’s World Cup squad after Wesley França was ruled out through injury. The change comes after Wesley suffered an injury on June 6, forcing the Seleção into a late squad adjustment ahead of the tournament.
