England face one of their toughest tests of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the early hours of Monday as they take on co-hosts Mexico in a blockbuster Round of 16 clash at the iconic Estadio Azteca.

Played more than 2,200 metres above sea level, the encounter presents a unique challenge for Thomas Tuchel’s side, who survived a major scare in the previous round by coming from behind to defeat DR Congo 2-1 and book their place in the last 16.

Harry Kane, who has already scored five goals at the tournament, continues to strengthen his bid for another Golden Boot, but England know they must raise their performance levels against a Mexico side enjoying an outstanding World Cup on home soil.

Javier Aguirre’s men extended their impressive run with a commanding 2-0 victory over Ecuador in the Round of 32. Julián Quiñones opened the scoring before setting up Raúl Jiménez to seal another memorable win for El Tri.
