Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembélé has played down the pressure surrounding the Ballon d’Or after completing a remarkable season with the French club.
Softfootball reports that the France international is among the leading contenders for the prestigious individual award after helping PSG win the Champions League, Ligue 1, Coupe de France and French Super Cup.
Speaking to the club’s website, Dembélé acknowledged that the Ballon d’Or remains a dream for footballers but insisted he does not allow the debate to dominate his thinking saying:
These are difficult things to say (aiming for the Ballon d’Or). But winning a Ballon d’Or, when you are a footballer, is obviously the ultimate on an individual level.
Dembélé has enjoyed a major transformation at PSG, becoming an influential attacking player while contributing goals, creativity and defensive work. His performances were particularly important during the club’s historic Champions League campaign.
Dembélé will now turn his attention to the next season, with PSG expected to defend their domestic titles while attempting to remain among Europe’s leading clubs.
