Coventry City finally got their first Premier League victory of the 2026/27 season after five matches, securing a historic 1-0 away win over Nottingham Forest.
Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka played his part in Coventry’s disciplined performance as they held on to claim all three points at the City Ground.
The victory was particularly significant for Coventry, as it marked their first Premier League win in 25 years and also ended a 25-year wait for a Premier League goal.

Despite Forest enjoying the majority of possession, Coventry remained organised and managed the game effectively to secure a memorable result on the road.
Nottingham Forest finished the match with 62% possession, compared with Coventry’s 38%, while Forest also registered 19 shots to Coventry’s nine. However, Coventry had three shots on target compared to Forest’s two.
Forest completed 484 passes with a 90% accuracy rate, while Coventry recorded 269 passes at 75% accuracy.
The hosts also committed 12 fouls and received two yellow cards, while Coventry committed nine fouls and finished the match without a booking.
The result provides a much-needed boost for Coventry after their difficult start to the campaign.
Following the victory, Coventry have moved up to 18th place in the 2026/27 Premier League table with three points.
The club will now hope the historic victory can serve as a turning point as they look to build momentum and climb away from the bottom of the table.
