Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino believes Arsenal may find it difficult to resist Real Madrid if the Spanish giants make a significant offer for William Saliba.

Softfootball notes that the French defender has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid following his outstanding performances for Arsenal over the last two seasons.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Cascarino explained that Real Madrid’s reputation and history of attracting the world’s best players make them a unique challenge for any club trying to keep hold of their top stars.

“There are vultures in football hanging over clubs all the time trying to take their best players,” Cascarino said.

“There’s no bigger vulture than Real Madrid. If they’re after you, there’s a good chance something could happen.”

The former Republic of Ireland international also pointed to the influence of agents and the appeal of playing for one of football’s most successful clubs.

Cascarino added that Arsenal’s best chance of keeping Saliba long-term is by winning major trophies and consistently competing for the UEFA Champions League.

According to him, Saliba is already performing at the level expected of a Real Madrid player, meaning Arsenal must continue proving they can match the ambitions of one of Europe’s elite clubs.
