The Confederation of African Football has appointed Kenyan referee Josephine Wanjiku to officiate the upcoming FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifier between Nigeria and South Africa.
The Flamingos will face the Bantwana in the first leg of their second-round tie in Pretoria on March 8.
Softfootball reports that Wanjiku will be assisted by her compatriots Mary Njoroge and Elizabeth Njoroge, with Juma Lucy Awino serving as the fourth official. The match is scheduled for 2pm Nigerian time at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
This appointment comes as Nigeria looks to advance after receiving a bye to this round, while South Africa crushed Gabon 21-2 on aggregate in the previous stage.
The stakes are high as the winner on aggregate will progress to the third round of qualification for the tournament in Morocco later this year. The return leg is set for March 15 at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo. The Flamingos have been in camp for several weeks preparing for the challenge against a South African side that has shown dominant form in recent fixtures.
