FIFA has officially announced Armenia and Georgia as co-hosts of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2029. The decision was confirmed via FIFA’s official X account following a joint bid submitted in 2024.

FIFA revealed:

Armenia and Georgia set to host the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2029! This will be the first ever FIFA tournament to be held in either country

The hosting rights were finalized during a FIFA Executive Committee meeting held in Vancouver on April 28, 2026. This move aligns with FIFA’s broader strategy of expanding major youth tournaments into emerging football regions, particularly in the South Caucasus, following the planned 2027 edition in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.

Softfootball understands that for both nations, this will mark the first time hosting a major FIFA tournament, representing a significant milestone in their football development.

Armenia, despite recent struggles including a heavy defeat in their final Group F match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers, is already planning infrastructure upgrades. New stadium projects in Vanadzor and Ijevan are expected to support logistics and long-term growth.

The tournament is anticipated to boost grassroots football, improve facilities, and provide a platform for youth talent development across both countries.

In another update, FIFA has confirmed that the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2026 will take place from November 19 to December 13, following approval at the latest FIFA Council meeting.

They shared:

Qatar will host the expanded competition, which now features 48 teams from six confederations, building on the format changes introduced after the 2022 senior World Cup.

Meanwhile, FIFA has also officially launched the final countdown to the 2026 World Cup, announcing that April 22 marked 50 days until the tournament begins.
