Former Real Madrid forward Predrag Mijatovic believes Carlo Ancelotti has lost control of the club’s dressing room following the team’s recent struggles.
Softfootball understands that Mijatovic made the remarks after Real Madrid’s disappointing 3-1 defeat to AC Milan in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League clash at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Speaking to Radio Marca, Mijatovic claimed the Spanish giants are currently experiencing a difficult period and suggested the players are no longer responding to Ancelotti in the same way they did during the club’s recent trophy-winning campaigns.
The former Montenegro international questioned Ancelotti’s tactical decisions against Milan, arguing that the substitutions failed to improve Madrid’s performance or inspire a comeback after they fell behind.
Mijatovic also suggested that the squad may have become complacent after several years of sustained success, making it harder for the Italian tactician to reignite the hunger and motivation that previously drove the team.
He admitted he is unsure whether Ancelotti can turn the situation around, adding that several players appear unhappy because they are not getting the amount of playing time they expected.
According to Mijatovic, Ancelotti no longer possesses the same level of authority he enjoyed in previous seasons, claiming the veteran coach is listening to too many opinions instead of firmly imposing his own ideas and decisions on the squad.
