Mutiu Adepoju wants to see his former international teammate rewarded with a full-time contract.
The ex-Super Eagles defender has thrown his support behind Augustine Eguavoen becoming Nigeria’s substantive head coach, pointing to qualification for the 2025 AFCON as evidence the job is already being done well.
Sources close to the matter told Softfootball that Adepoju made his case on Brila FM, with the Nigeria Football Federation still weighing whether to pursue a foreign coach instead:
I would rate him very well. Number one, we’ve qualified for the AFCON, which is one of the objectives. I would say he has done well and is still doing well. They should keep encouraging him. I believe he’s getting things done, I will rate him high, let’s just keep supporting him.
Eguavoen has held the role in a caretaker capacity since September, guiding the three-time African champions to three wins, two draws, and one defeat across the qualifying campaign.
With his future still undecided, endorsements like Adepoju’s add fresh pressure on the NFF to settle the matter one way or another.
