Napoli Monitor Goretzka Situation Ahead of Possible Summer Move

2 Min Read

Softfootball understands that Napoli is interested in Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, yet a January transfer looks very far from happening.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via his official X account, the Serie A side has been linked with the German international as they search for midfield cover, following injury problems. Even so, there is still nothing close to a formal discussion between Napoli and Bayern at this stage.

He posted:

Napoli are not in active talks to sign Leon Goretzka in January, despite reports in Italy. He’s on Napoli shortlist for the summer window as a potential opportunity on a free transfer if he’s going to leave Bayern.

Bayern are not open to letting Goretzka leave halfway through the season, despite his contract situation. With the club fighting on several fronts, including the Bundesliga and Europe, losing an experienced option in January is seen as an unnecessary risk.

Goretzka currently has a contract that runs until June 30, 2026. Reports suggest that there are no serious plans for a renewal.

At 30 years old, Goretzka, who recently featured in Bayern’s last 3-1 Champions League victory against Sporting and also in the club’s 3-1 Bundesliga victory against St. Pauli, both games as a late substitute, has mostly been used from the bench, sitting behind Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlovic in the midfield hierarchy.

He remains valued, but he is no longer an automatic starter. For now, Goretzka himself seems in no rush. He is believed to want to finish the season in Munich and then take time to look at his options properly.

So while Napoli’s interest is real, a January move feels more like talk than action. The real story may only begin later, when the summer window opens, and decisions must finally be made.
