Bayern Munich supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has refused to rule out the possibility of Florian Wirtz returning to the club in the future, while admitting that Bayern respected the midfielder’s decision to join Liverpool.
Wirtz moved to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in 2025 after Bayern had been heavily involved in the race for his signature. Rummenigge revealed that the German club had maintained contact with Wirtz’s parents before the family eventually decided on a different path.

Rummenigge said, as reported by Abendzeitung.
He added that Bayern had been in contact with Wirtz’s father and mother for some time, but respected their eventual decision to pursue the Liverpool move.
Wirtz has experienced a difficult period since arriving at Anfield, with his performances attracting scrutiny during his time in England. Recent reports have also highlighted the uncertainty surrounding his adaptation to Liverpool, although the club continues to back the German international.
Meanwhile, Rummenigge has also spoken positively about Bayern’s ongoing negotiations with Harry Kane. The England captain’s current contract runs until the end of the 2026/27 season, with talks over an extension progressing positively.
Rummenigge has previously indicated that Bayern could make an exception to their usual approach of offering players over 30 shorter contracts because of Kane’s importance and fitness record.
“We are convinced by Harry Kane,” Rummenigge said amid the contract discussions, underlining the club’s confidence in the striker.
