The Super Eagles of Nigeria have paid a stylish tribute to the legendary 1996 national team by showcasing a look-alike version of the iconic jersey at the ongoing AFCON 2025 in Morocco, Softfootball reports.
The tribute was revealed through a gallery of photos shared on the Super Eagles’ official X handle, with the images captured at a stadium pitch in Morocco. In the photos, current Super Eagles players were seen proudly wearing jerseys inspired by the famous 1996 squad kit.
The 1996 Super Eagles team remains one of the most celebrated generations in Nigerian football history, featuring legendary players such as:
- Goalkeeper: Peter Rufai
- Defenders: Celestine Babayaro, Uche Okafor
- Midfielders: Sunday Oliseh, Jay-Jay Okocha, Wilson Oruma
- Forwards: Rashidi Yekini, Nwankwo Kanu, Samson Siasia
Many members of that squad were part of Nigeria’s golden era, contributing to successes such as the 1994 AFCON triumph, World Cup appearances, and participation in the 1998 FIFA World Cup.

Among the current Super Eagles players spotted wearing the retro-inspired jersey were Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, who stood out with dark glasses, Chidera Ejuke, and several others.
The showcase has sparked nostalgia among fans, celebrating Nigeria’s rich football heritage while inspiring the current squad as they continue their AFCON 2025 campaign in Morocco.
