Softfootball celebrates Raphaël Guerreiro today, as the Bayern Munich man turns 32 and continues a career that has never needed noise to be respected.
He isn’t the loudest figure in modern football, and he never really was, but his journey tells a strong story all the same. One built on quality, intelligence, and showing up when it matters.
Bayern Munich took time to wish the player a happy birthday today via their official X account.

Born in Le Blanc-Mesnil, France, to a Portuguese father and a French mother, Guerreiro grew up with two identities and two possible futures. When the choice came, he picked Portugal.
Time has proved that decision right. His name is forever tied to Euro 2016, where he played every minute of the tournament, including the final win over France. Portugal’s first-ever major international trophy, and Guerreiro was there from start to finish.

Later that year, he was named Portugal’s Defender of the Year, an award that quietly summed up his importance.
Across his international career, he has earned 65 caps and scored four goals. He featured at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, as well as Euro 2016 and Euro 2021, and added the Nations League title in 2019. In 2024, he stepped away from international duty due to injury concerns.
In June 2025, he confirmed his return intentions with a simple message stating that he asked for a break, but now he is ready.

At the club level, his rise was steady, not rushed. From Caen to Lorient, then Borussia Dortmund, where he became a key figure. Over 162 appearances, he scored 30 goals and won two DFB-Pokal titles, plus the 2019 Supercup. He wasn’t always the headline player, but managers trusted him, and teammates relied on him.
Since joining Bayern Munich in 2023, the medals have kept coming. The 2024–25 Bundesliga title and the 2025 DFL-Supercup added more shine.

This season, he’s played 16 matches, scoring three goals with two assists. He recently scored a goal in Bayern Munich’s 3-1 victory against St Pauli and also featured for 76 minutes in Bayern’s recent 3-1 Champions League victory against Sporting CP.
Now 32, with a contract until 2026, Guerreiro remains versatile. Softfootball celebrates Raphaël Guerreiro not for being flashy, but for being reliable. Calm, clever, and still very much part of football’s conversation.
