Congo DR and Uzbekistan will battle for third place in Group K at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, with both sides chasing a possible place in the last 32 of the 2026 World Cup.

Sebastien Desabre’s Congo DR head into the fixture needing a victory after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in their second match. The Leopards impressed in their opening game by frustrating Portugal, but they struggled to create enough attacking threat against Colombia despite remaining competitive.

Uzbekistan face a difficult task after losing both of their opening fixtures. The World Cup debutants were beaten 3-1 by Colombia before suffering a heavy 5-0 defeat against Portugal, leaving them with one of the tournament’s worst goal differences.

Fabio Cannavaro’s team have struggled for consistency, failing to win in their last five matches, and they have scored only two goals across their last four games.

Both teams need maximum points, but Congo DR appear better positioned thanks to their stronger defensive performances and greater tournament experience.

Team News

Congo DR could change their approach by moving from a back five to a four-man defence as they chase victory.

Steve Kapuadi could drop out, with Chancel Mbemba and Axel Tuanzebe expected to continue centrally. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Arthur Masuaku are likely to operate as full-backs.

Yoane Wissa remains a key attacking threat, while Cedric Bakambu provides experience after scoring 21 international goals.

Uzbekistan have no major injury concerns, with captain Eldor Shomurodov expected to lead the attack.

Abbosbek Fayzullayev remains their only World Cup goalscorer and will be hoping to add another goal to his tournament record.
