“With broken hearts, we share the devastating news that our baby boy passed away during pregnancy. Thank you for your love and support. Elijah Raphael Gakpo. Forever loved. Forever our son.”
She later shared another emotional image of a candle and cross, explaining that the family visited church to light a candle in memory of their son before spending time at the playground with their eldest child, Samuel.
Following the announcement, Gakpo appealed for privacy as he and his family grieve the unimaginable loss, with messages of support flooding in from teammates, supporters, fellow footballers and clubs around the world.
