Saudi Pro League CEO Omar Mugharbel has openly declared the league’s interest in Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah, setting social media alight and reopening the long-running debate about the Egyptian forward’s future.
Speaking at the World Football Summit (WFS), as revealed by sports expert Fabrizio Romano via his official X account, Mugharbel made it clear the door is wide open.

Fabrizio posted:
Saudi Pro League CEO Omar Mugharbel at WFS: Mohamed Salah is welcome in the Saudi League, but it is the clubs that are responsible for negotiating with players.
For sure Salah is one of them.
This latest twist comes despite Salah signing a two-year contract extension in April 2025, keeping him tied to Anfield until June 2027. Still, recent events have added fuel to the fire.
His surprise omission from the squad for the key Champions League clash against Inter Milan sparked frustration from the forward, who had earlier voiced concerns over his reduced role under Arne Slot.

Despite eventually returning to winning ways with a 1-nil victory over the Nerazzurri, the timing couldn’t have been worse for Liverpool, especially after winning the Premier League last season with Salah playing a massive role.
Softfootball understands that behind the scenes, Saudi clubs are said to be preparing for renewed talks ahead of the January 2026 transfer window. A close source to the Public Investment Fund (PIF) reportedly claimed the kingdom is ready to do whatever it can to land Salah, viewing him as a symbolic figure for Arab football.
It wouldn’t be the first attempt either, back in 2023, Al-Ittihad failed with a jaw-dropping $200 million bid.

The Saudi Pro League already boasts names like Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and N’Golo Kanté. Neymar may have left Al-Hilal for Santos in early 2025, but the league’s pulling power is still very real.
On the pitch, Salah remains unstoppable. He’s recorded 12 goals and eight assists in just 15 Premier League games this season. He’s also expected to captain Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations after Liverpool’s festive fixtures, which could delay any serious negotiations.
For Liverpool fans, the idea of losing Salah is painful. Since joining from Roma in 2017, he’s scored over 200 goals and delivered Champions League and league titles. With a valuation north of £30 million and huge commercial impact, any deal would shake the football world.
