FC Porto Shut Down Transfer Rumours as Francesco Farioli Backs Deniz Gul’s Long Term Future

4 Min Read

FC Porto have made their stance loud and clear: Deniz Gul isn’t going anywhere. Despite increasing interest from several Turkish sides, and even a couple of Belgian teams poking around, Porto remain fully committed to keeping the 21-year-old forward at the Estádio do Dragão.

Softfootball reports from late September 2025 revealed that the club flat-out rejected those enquiries, seeing Gul not just as a squad piece, but as a long-term project they genuinely believe in.

Gul arrived from Hammarby in 2024 for around €4.5 million, and Porto wasted no time in protecting their investment. The youngster is tied down until 2029 and carries a hefty €50 million release clause, a number that pretty much screams, ‘We trust this guy’s ceiling.”

This information was revealed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via his official X account

He posted:

FC Porto are not planning to let Deniz Gul leave the club despite reports on Turkish clubs keen.

No chance for January exit as Farioli rates him highly and Gul is happy at Porto

Even though Gul has only made two appearances this season and hasn’t found the net yet, manager Francesco Farioli clearly likes what he sees behind the scenes.

According to Farioli, Gul has shown noticeable improvement since pre-season—especially in his finishing, work ethic, and general focus. It’s the kind of stuff that doesn’t always show up on matchdays but matters a lot to coaches.

Farioli has also doubled down publicly, saying Gul is a key part of his attacking structure. With Samu Aghehowa leading the line and Luuk de Jong currently sidelined, the manager sees Gul as both an important backup and a potential starter depending on the team’s needs. Basically, he’s not just filling space on the bench.

What helps Porto’s confidence is that Gul himself seems settled. Despite being of Turkish descent and attracting interest from clubs in that region, he’s reportedly very happy at Porto and more focused on earning minutes than entertaining transfer talk.

Porto have been having a decently good season, as they sit top of the Portuguese League by 3 points, and following the 2-nil Europa League open day defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest, that had fans react strongly in our Post match reactions report.

Porto have also given a good account of themselve in europe and domestically, going on a seven-game unbeaten run wining six of them.

His adaptation to the team’s rhythm, especially under a coach like Farioli, aligns perfectly with the club’s philosophy of slowly building young talents.

With the January window creeping closer, Porto’s message hasn’t changed one bit: Deniz Gul is staying put. No loans, no shortcuts, no early exits. Just patience, development, and a belief that the young forward will eventually break through in their evolving attack.
