Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has claimed that the club always wanted to keep Fermín López despite huge interest from other clubs during the summer, Softfootball reports.

The La Masia graduate scored his first senior career hat-trick as he inspired Barcelona to a 6-1 victory against Olympiacos in the group phase of the UEFA Champions League played on Tuesday night.

Football expert, Fabrizio Romano shared a post via his official X handle where Flick was explaining to the press why Fermin is important to his side. He wrote:

Hansi Flick: Fermín López has a lot of potential. We always wanted to keep him at the club. He’s different, dynamic… For us, he’s a very important player.

Fermín has been one of the shinning lights for Barcelona since he broke into the first team. He helped Spain to the Olympic gold in the Men’s Football even and also part of the current La Roja setup.

However, his form hasn’t gone unnoticed as he was chased by many top clubs during the summer especially, Chelsea. The Blues offered a tempting 60 million Euros for his services but the player insisted that he loves Barcelona and did not leave the club.

Fermín has now formed a formidable partnership with Pedri and Frankie de Jong in the heart of Barcelona’s midfield and his goals contribution has increased as a result as they try to retain their league title this season and do better than a semifinal place finish in the UEFA Champions League.
