Former Chelsea manager, Graham Potter has penned a short-term deal to become new manager of Sweden, Softfootball reports.

Potter was linked with the Sweden job at the weekend as he has been out of a job since he was sacked by Premier League outfit, West Ham United earlier this season following some poor results.

Football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news via his official X handle. He wrote:

Graham Potter, new head coach of Sweden until March 2026 as initial short-term contract with World Cup mission.

Deal agreed last week and signed in the last 24h as former West Ham manager returns immediately.

Sweden fired Jon Dahl Tomasson after losing 1-0 loss to minnows Kosovo during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier and that made automatic qualification impossible from Group B. But they can make the play-offs even without finishing in the top two following their success in the 2024/25 Nations League, where they topped their group.

Interestingly, despite being sacked by Chelsea and West Ham in his last two managerial jobs, Potter retains a positive image in Sweden, having delivered three promotions in four seasons at Ostersund, taking them from the fourth division to the top flight, while also winning a domestic cup in 2017.

Potter enjoyed successful spells at Brighton and Swansea City and will hope his new adventure in Sweden offer him plenty success as he rebuilds his career.
