According to football expert, Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle, he revealed that Boateng has officially confirmed his decision to retire from football. He wrote:

Jerome Boateng has retired from professional football as he’s now planning for his future.

Decision confirmed.

At Bayern Munich Boateng played for a decade between 2011 to 2021, winning nine Bundesliga titles which includes two trebles (League, Cup, and Champions League) in the 2012-13 and 2019-20 seasons. The likes of Dayot Upamecano are now modelling their game after the Bayern legend.

Unlike his good friend İlkay Gündoğan that injury stopped from playing at the Mundial, Boateng was part of the German squad that won the 2014 World Cup. He was a starter in the final against Argentina and established himself as one of the best central defenders in the world. He made 76 appearances for the Mannschaft.

Boateng had stints at Hertha BSC, Hamburger SV and Manchester City. After leaving Bayern, he played for Olympique Lyonnais and LASK Linz, where injuries and inconsistency marked the end of his time at the club.
