Manchester City are set to re-enter the race for Enzo Fernández, with Chelsea now taking steps to accelerate the midfielder’s potential departure.
Softfootball understands that super-agent Jorge Mendes has become involved in the situation and is mediating the process at Chelsea’s request.
Mendes previously played a role in Fernández’s arrival at Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali is now understood to want the Portuguese agent involved again as the club explores the midfielder’s exit.
Manchester City have maintained their interest in Fernández and are expected to once again explore a potential move, with Mendes now working to help facilitate the departure.
The latest development comes three days after Chelsea’s 17:00 Friday deadline for a potential transfer passed without Manchester City or any other club submitting a written offer.

The previously discussed £120 million exit conditions that had been made available to Fernández’s representatives since May were subsequently taken off the table.
However, the situation has now reopened, with City preparing to return to the race and Chelsea appearing increasingly willing to consider a departure.
Should Fernández leave Stamford Bridge, Chelsea are expected to return strongly to the transfer market for a replacement as Xabi Alonso looks to reshape his squad ahead of the new season.
