Postecoglou reaffirms trophy ambition at Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest’s new manager, Ange Postecoglou, has reaffirmed his ambitions, clearly stating that his arrival at the City Ground is about chasing silverware, Softfootball reports.

The Greek-born manager, appointed earlier this week, spoke with confidence as he outlined his vision for the club. Having lifted trophies in Australia, Japan, Scotland, and most recently in England with Tottenham, Postecoglou insisted that his winning mentality will not change in Nottingham.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano on his X handle, the 60-year-old made it clear that trophies will be his key performance indicator at Forest. Romano quoted him as saying:

I’ve already said I want to win trophies. That’s what I’ve done all my career and that’s what I’ll do here at Nottingham Forest.

Forest, who secured Postecoglou on a two-year deal after his exit from Tottenham Hotspur, views his appointment as a key step in building on recent progress and establishing themselves as a competitive force both domestically and in Europe. As Softfootball reported earlier, the club’s hierarchy has strongly backed Postecoglou by assembling a new technical staff including Mile Jedinak, Nick Montgomery, Sergio Raimundo, and Rob Burch, all of whom worked with Postecoglou previously.

Meanwhile, in his first interview, as released on the club’s website, the new gaffer emphasised responsibility, ambition, and breaking limits while also praising Forest’s recent European qualification.

Postecoglou said:

When you look at what the Club has achieved in recent times, it’s an outstanding feat to be where we are right now. Other clubs that have won promotion have struggled to stay in the league, but in a short space of time we’re back in Europe and competing for honours, which is a great credit to everyone involved.

With the Premier League resuming this weekend, attention now turns to how quickly the squad can adapt to the manager’s demands and whether Postecoglou can make his bold promise a reality. The new gaffer’s first test is against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. Postecoglou may be seeking to rewrite his poor track record against Arteta; the Nottingham gaffer has never defeated Arsenal in all his four meetings with the Spanish coach.
