Spain captain and Como player in Italy, Álvaro Morata, has underlined his excitement and determination as Luis de la Fuente’s squad prepares to open their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying journey on Thursday. Spain will be facing Bulgaria for the first time since 1998 as they kick off their World Cup qualifier.

As gathered by Softfootball, the experienced forward spoke with confidence in Spain’s camp but also stressed caution, warning that the road to North America will not be as straightforward as it may look from the outside.

As shared on the Spanish team’s English X handle, known as Spanish Football, Morata’s words depict the attacker’s position, saying that his team will be facing a tough test, which looks more difficult than it seems to the fans.

Morata said:

I am very eager to begin this qualifying stage, which will be more difficult than it may appear from the outside.

The 31-year-old striker, who recently joined Italian side Como on loan from AC Milan, raises concerns about his team facing a difficult task at the Vasil Levski National Stadium.

Morata then continued that despite the challenge ahead for the team, he feels excited to play for the team.

He added:

I feel good, and very happy to be here. I’ve been through tough moments that make you doubt, but being in the National Team is the most wonderful thing. Whenever I’m needed, I’ll be here to the death. The only thing I want is to help my country win titles.

Spain will begin their qualifiers seeking to regain their winning confidence after their last defeat to Portugal at the UEFA Nations League final. Meanwhile, the last time Spain played Bulgaria, it ended 6-1 in favour of the Spanish side.
