Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal has further poured cold water on reports linking Fermin Lopez with a move to Chelsea, insisting his teammate had no plans to leave the Camp Nou.

Speaking in an interview, Yamal revealed that talk of a potential transfer was nothing more than a joke among the players, claiming that the midfielder or any other Barcelona player wants to leave the club.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano echoed Yamal’s stance, confirming via his official X account that Lopez never asked to leave and remains fully committed to the club. The midfielder, whose contract runs until 2029, is also focused on his role with the Spanish national team following his call-up by head coach de la Fuente.

Romano tweeted:

Lamine Yamal on Chelsea bid for Fermín: “We were joking with Fermín about moving to England… but he’s happy at Barcelona. No one wants to leave”. “We asked him about that bid from England but Fermín said he’s happy here, he had no plans to leave”,

His comments come after reports suggested Chelsea had tested Barcelona’s resolve with an opening offer of €40 million plus add-ons for the 21-year-old midfielder. Softfootball reported that the Catalan giants, however, dismissed the bid outright and reportedly value Lopez at around €90 million.

Barcelona, meanwhile, views Fermin Lopez as a key part of their future and has no intention of cashing in, especially as they continue to build a squad centred on young talents like Yamal, Gavi, and Pedri.

For Chelsea, the rejection is another setback in their search for midfield reinforcements. The Blues had hoped to tempt the youngster to Stamford Bridge, but Yamal’s comments and Barcelona’s firm stance underline that the player is going nowhere.

And with the transfer window closed, the message from Camp Nou is clear: Fermin Lopez is staying put.
