Bayer Leverkusen has sacked former Manchester United Coach, Erik Ten Hag after just two official matches in-charge of the Bundesliga outfit, Softfootball reports.

The 55-year-old was appointed in the summer as replacement for Xabi Alonso who left for 15-time UEFA Champions League winners, Real Madrid.

The hierarchy at Leverkusen were not impressed with his methods after losing on the opening day 2-1 to Hoffenheim at home and drawing 3-3 to 10-man Werder Bremen last week after leading 2-0 and 3-1 at a point in the game.

According to Leverkusen’s official club media, the decision to sack Ten Hag was jointly reached by the shareholders’ committee and the club’s supervisory body.

Bayer Levekusen managing director sport, Simon Rolfes said :

“This decision was not an easy one for us. Nobody wanted to take this step. However, the past few weeks have shown that building a new and successful team with this setup is not feasible.

“We firmly believe in the quality of our team and will now do everything we can to take the next steps in our development with a new setup.”

Fernando Carro, the club’s CEO also shared his views:

“A parting of ways at this early stage of the season is painful, but we felt it was necessary. We remain committed to achieving our goals for the season – and to do that, we need the best possible conditions at all levels and across the entire first team.

“Now it’s a matter of fully implementing and utilising these conditions again.”

Bayer Leverkusen training will be overseen by the current backroom staff on an interim basis pending the appointment of a new manager, who is likely to resume after the international break.

Ten Hag was also sacked from his last job as manager of Manchester United after failing to impress. Although, he won the FA Cup with the Red Devils, beating Manchester City 2-1 in the final at Wembley.
