Liverpool have sealed the transfer of Italian defender, Giovanni Leoni from Serie A side, Parma. Softfootball had revealed that the Reds were in pursuit of more defenders as they have only Ibrahima Konate, Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez as their centre back pairings for the coming season.
The Reds had been in double pursuit of Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi and Giovanni Leoni as their new options in the position. Slot’s team have now hit a breakthrough for Leoni as Liverpool and Parma have now reached an agreement.

According to transfer journalist, Fabrizio Romano, both clubs have reached an agreement in principle for the young defender. The 18 year old can play both centre back and right back. The versatility of the defender attracted Liverpool as they look to grab a a good back for two positions.
Fabrizio took to his verified X handle to report the new agreement between Liverpool and Parma. He posted:
“BREAKING: Giovanni Leoni to Liverpool, here we go! Deal agreed with Parma for Italian 18yo centre back.
“No loan, never discussed… Leoni joins #LFC now as part of Arne Slot plans.
“Fee around €35m with sell-on clause.
“No convincing ever needed as Leoni wanted Liverpool.”
The Italian is set to become the club’s seventh first-team signing of the window. He will join the likes of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong as the new arrivals of Liverpool ahead of next season.
Liverpool kick off their Premier League title defence on Friday when they take on Bournemouth. They will hope to have Leoni signed in time for the curtain-raiser.
Meanwhile, the Reds have had the doors shut on them in their attempt to sign Marc Guehi. The Crystal Palace captain is reported to remain with the Eagles till the end of his contract. The defender just lifted the FA Community Shield with Palace after beating Liverpool on penalties.
