Crystal Palace had to come back twice against Liverpool in regulation period and be the better team during the penalty shoot-outs to hand football fans the upset of the 2025/2026 season. Softfootball watched as the Premier League champions and the FA Cup winner slugged it out for the first trophy of the 2025/26 season.
Jean-Phillipe Mateta and Ismaila Sarr were the heroes for Palace in 90 minutes as they helped the team come back twice to drag the game to penalties. Dean Henderson became the super hero of the day after making two penalty saves in the shoot-out.

The Eagles have now two trophies in a space of a few months after going almost all existent without any trophy. They won the English FA Cup against Manchester City and now have won the FA Community Shield against Liverpool.
Despite no big signing yet, Oliver Glasner has helped the Eagles set a record they never thought exist in their history. The gaffer was full of praise and pride in the post match conference where he was giving his thoughts about the game.
