Newcastle plot £50m swoop for Brentford star

Brentford are the biggest market for various clubs to shop for players this summer and it’s no surprise that Newcastle are looking to price away one of their biggest stars.

Softfootball can report that the Magppies have entered talks to sign £50m-rated Yoane Wissa, who has scored 45 goals with 13 assists in 137 Premier League appearances for Brentford.

According to BBC Sport, Eddie Howe’s side switched focus on the DR Congo international, 24 hours after withdrawing their £70m pursuit of Frankfurt striker, Hugo Ekitike. The Magpies are keen to sign a new centre-forward that would play alongside Alexander Isak following the departure Callum Wilson.

Interestingly, Liverpool also want Ekitike as new number for next season. The Reds sees the Frenchman alternative to their first-choice target, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak. The Magpies were adamant that the Swede is not for sale and the Anfield club are now expected to step up their interest in Ekitike.

The report claims that Liverpool have already agreed personal terms with Ekitike and are now waiting on agreement with Frankfurt to complete the deal.

Newcastle United do not want to waste anymore efforts on Ekitike after their initial bid hit complications in the last 24 hours. Howe would like to have another striker and the board are working tirelessly to sign Wissa.

Newcastle’s interest in the Democratic Republic of Congo international is understood to be less advanced than that of Tottenham and Nottingham Forest as things stand but it has ramped up as the club from north east England increase their efforts to sign the striker.

Brentford are adamant they do not want to lose both Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo, who is wanted by Manchester United. While Mbeumo wants only the Red Devils, Wissa is open to leaving the Bees for a chance to play in the Champions League next season.

Softfootball reported earlier that former England international Stuart Pearce has urged Manchester United and Arsenal to sign Brentford forward Yoane Wissa.

Wissa stepped up as Brentford’s main striker following Ivan Toney’s departure to Saudi Arabia, and he has delivered impressively netting 20 goals across all competitions last season. Wissa joined Brentford from Ligue 1 side Lorient in 2021 and has steadily grown into a key figure for Thomas Frank’s side.
