Barely six days into preseason, Manchester United Coach, Ruben Amorim has received the sad news of an injury to a key member of his squad. Softfootball understands that Cameroon goalkeeper, Andre Onana has picked up a hamstring injury and will be out for close to six weeks.
According to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, Onana picked up the injury in training after he and other teammates returned for preseason which began on July 7.

He said:
“Manchester United have been dealt a massive blow with André Onana ruled out of pre-season tour with a hamstring injury. Ruben Amorim is now weighing up whether to buy another goalkeeper before the Premier League season gets under way.
“Onana, 29, has suffered the problem this week as players returned to United’s training base at Carrington, with early assessment fearing he will miss six to eight weeks of action, pushing him to the brink of making the curtain-raiser against Arsenal on Sunday August 17.”
Interestingly, Onana has been a constant figure in the starting XI of Manchester United since he joined the club in 2023 from Inter Milan but has failed to impress. Last season, he made a lot of mistakes in goal as the Red Devils finished 15th in the Premier League.

Manchester United value Onana at £30million and are open to a sale this summer but until now they’ve not prioritized his position as they have other areas of concern they need to fix and with limited cash.
AS Monaco enquired about the former Barcelona and Ajax goalkeeper but considered his fee too high. The Ligue 1 side has since moved on to other targets.
Softfootball had reported earlier that the Red Devils are monitoring 29-year-old John Victor from Botafogo as a possible addition to their squad ahead of next season.
Turkish international Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton, who just signed a one-year extension will be in goal for the preseason matches.
