Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has promised an aggressive approach against Liverpool when the two sides meet in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie in Paris.

The Spanish tactician acknowledged the quality of the Premier League leaders but insisted PSG will remain true to their attacking philosophy rather than adopt a cautious game plan.

Softfootball understands Enrique believes Liverpool are currently the form team in Europe, making the encounter one of the standout fixtures of the Champions League knockout stage.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s clash, the former Barcelona coach explained why his side must take the initiative. Speaking via the club’s official media, Enrique said:

Liverpool and Lille remind me of each other; we pushed them so hard that they no longer play from behind, they had to play deep.

We have to play against the best team in Europe that has qualified in an excellent way, but it is not in our mentality to speculate, protect ourselves, or stand defensively.

The PSG boss made it clear that his players will look to impose themselves from the opening whistle.

We will attack, and we will try to turn it to our advantage.

Enrique also praised Liverpool’s consistency underlining the magnitude of the challenge awaiting his team.

I know Liverpool very well; they are undoubtedly the team in Europe that is in the best shape, both in terms of results and performances.
