Egyptian giants Al Ahly are reportedly interested in signing Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho during the January transfer window after his difficult spell at Sevilla.

Softfootball understands the Nigerian forward has struggled to establish himself in Spain since joining Sevilla on a free transfer last summer after leaving Leicester City. Iheanacho has failed to register a goal or assist in nine La Liga appearances, prompting speculation over his future.

Reports indicate Sevilla are willing to sanction a loan move with an option to buy, while Championship side Watford have also been linked with the 28-year-old.

Introducing the latest transfer development, English outlet Express reported that Al Ahly have emerged as serious contenders as they search for a replacement for South African forward Percy Tau.

The Egyptian champions are also looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

A move to Cairo could offer Iheanacho the opportunity to revive his career with one of Africa’s biggest clubs while securing regular playing time.
