Super Eagles of Nigeria forward Moses Simon has issued a clarification regarding his comments about being dropped by Enugu Rangers during his early football journey.
In an interview on Urban Dwell, he had recounted that he was denied a professional contract because he is not Igbo, describing it as one of the most painful moments of his youth career.
In his clarification, Simon stated:
Over the past few days, I’ve reflected on some of the comments I made during a recent interview, and I feel it’s important to provide some clarification.
The experiences at Rangers that I spoke about were my own and were based on a particular period in my journey.
They should not be taken as a reflection of the current state of this great and historic club. Clubs grow, people change, and I sincerely believe it’s important to acknowledge that.
I also want to say, from the bottom of my heart, that my comments were never intended to portray any tribe or group of people in a negative light.
I have always believed in the values of respect, unity, and judging people by their character rather than their background.
I am grateful to the current General Manager/CEO of Rangers, Amobi Ezeaku, for reaching out to me personally.
I appreciated the opportunity to have an open and honest conversation, and I thank him for his understanding and professionalism.
This club will always hold a special place in football, and I have nothing but respect for everyone working hard to move it forward. I wish the club, its players, staff, supporters, and leadership every success for the remainder of this season and for many years to come.
Softfootball gathered that before this clarification, Enugu Rangers had released an official statement addressing Simon’s initial revelation, firmly denying that the club has ever operated any policy of ethnic discrimination.
