Speaking in an interview with Tribal Football, the 24-year-old described Utaka as one of his childhood heroes and admitted the former Nigeria international’s legacy at Montpellier made the move even more appealing.

According to Adams, Utaka’s achievements with the club, including helping Montpellier win the Ligue 1 title, inspired him to follow the same path.

The Nigerian forward said he was proud to join a club where one of his role models had enjoyed so much success and remained highly respected by the supporters.

Adams also revealed that working alongside Utaka has been invaluable to his development, explaining that the former striker regularly offers advice on his performances after matches.

He noted that their discussions focus on improving his movement, decision-making and finishing, describing the opportunity to learn from Utaka as a huge privilege.

Utaka, who starred for Montpellier between 2011 and 2013, remains a popular figure at the club after playing a key role in their historic Ligue 1 triumph.

Adams believes having such an experienced mentor within the coaching staff has helped him settle in France and continue developing as a striker as he targets greater success with both Montpellier and the Super Eagles.
