Brazil produced a much-improved performance at the FIFA World Cup as they defeated Haiti 3-0 to move top of Group C and put their knockout-stage qualification hopes in a strong position, Softfootball reports.
After a disappointing opening draw against Morocco, the five-time world champions responded with a dominant first-half display, scoring all three goals before the break. Matheus Cunha was the standout performer, scoring twice before Vinicius Junior added a third to seal a comfortable victory.
Brazil started aggressively and thought they had taken the lead in the 12th minute when Raphinha finished well after running onto Bruno Guimarães’ pass, but the goal was correctly ruled out for offside. The Barcelona winger had another opportunity shortly after but missed before the flag was raised again.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 23rd minute. Vinicius Junior cut inside from the left and saw his curling effort pushed away by Haiti goalkeeper Johny Placide, allowing Cunha to react quickly and tap home from close range.
Cunha doubled Brazil’s advantage in the 36th minute after Haiti surrendered possession in midfield. Vinicius sent the forward through on goal, and Cunha produced a powerful first-time finish into the roof of the net.
Brazil suffered a setback before halftime when Raphinha was forced off with what appeared to be a hamstring injury, with teenager Rayan replacing him. However, they continued to dominate, and Vinicius added the third goal in stoppage time after finishing calmly from Lucas Paquetá’s excellent lofted pass.
Haiti improved after the interval and showed more attacking intent, but Brazil goalkeeper Alisson denied them a historic World Cup goal with a superb close-range save from Ricardo Ade’s header.
The result leaves Haiti eliminated from the tournament after two defeats, while Brazil move into first place in Group C with confidence restored ahead of their final group fixture.
