Brazil will be aiming to secure their first victory of the 2026 FIFA World Cup when they take on Haiti at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Friday evening.

Group C remains finely poised after the opening round of matches. Scotland sit top with three points, Morocco are second on one point, Brazil are third on one point, while Haiti remain bottom after suffering a narrow defeat in their tournament opener.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side were below their usual standards against Morocco, but a moment of brilliance from Vinicius Junior helped the Selecao earn a valuable point. While Brazil remain among the favourites to lift the trophy, their opening display suggested there is significant room for improvement if they are to challenge for a record-extending sixth World Cup crown.

The South American giants have not won the tournament since 2002 and have failed to progress beyond the quarter-finals since reaching the last four in 2014. With a final group-stage showdown against Scotland still to come, Brazil know that victory over Haiti would put them in a much stronger position heading into the decisive matchday.

Preparations have intensified ahead of the encounter, with Brazil’s official national team account sharing images from the squad’s final training session. The post urged supporters on with the message “Vamos com tudo, nação!” alongside the hashtag #BateNoPeito, featuring Neymar and his teammates taking part in drills as the squad completed preparations for the match.

Fan reactions reflected both confidence and expectation, with many supporters calling for rising star Endrick to be included in the starting lineup while expressing optimism about Brazil’s chances against Haiti.

History heavily favours the Selecao. Brazil have won all three previous meetings between the nations, scoring an incredible 17 goals in the process. Their most recent encounter came at the 2016 Copa America, where Brazil cruised to a commanding 7-1 victory.

Despite their underdog status, Haiti can take encouragement from their performance against Scotland. The Caribbean side created several promising moments but ultimately fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat after John McGinn’s first-half strike proved decisive.

The stakes are particularly high for Sebastien Migne’s men. A defeat, combined with a Morocco victory over Scotland, would mathematically eliminate Haiti from the tournament before the final group-stage match.

The Grenadiers are appearing at the World Cup for only the second time in their history, having lost all three matches during their debut campaign in 1974. Securing even a single point at this tournament would therefore represent a historic achievement.

Team News

Neymar remains a fitness doubt heading into the contest, although he was pictured training with the squad during preparations. Ancelotti is expected to make changes following Brazil’s underwhelming performance against Morocco. Danilo could return to the defence, while Fabinho, Luiz Henrique and Matheus Cunha are all pushing for starting roles.

Vinicius Junior and Raphinha are expected to retain their places in attack after both delivered lively performances in the opener, while Gabriel Magalhaes should continue at the heart of the defence.

Head coach Sebastien Migne could make alterations to his attack after the defeat to Scotland. Josue Casimir is pushing for a place in the starting XI, potentially at the expense of Frantzdy Pierrot.

Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor is expected to lead the line once again after scoring twice in his first five international appearances, while Louicius Deedson should keep his place in the forward line. Veteran goalkeeper and captain Johny Placide is set to earn his 84th international cap and will be tasked with keeping Brazil’s star-studded attack at bay.

Haiti showed a lot of determination against Scotland, but facing Brazil represents an entirely different challenge. The Selecao possess vastly superior quality across the pitch and will be determined to respond after a disappointing opening performance.
