Chelsea’s pursuit of Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott appears to have lost momentum, with a summer move now looking increasingly unlikely.
At the end of July, Softfootball reported that Chelsea had submitted an opening £64 million bid for Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, only for the offer to be rejected.
The Blues are understood to be satisfied with their current midfield depth, with Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers expected to operate as the club’s two attacking midfielders, leaving the remaining central and defensive midfield roles to be shared among the existing squad.
Enzo Fernández and Moisés Caicedo remain key figures in Xabi Alonso’s plans and are viewed as reliable, durable options. With Chelsea expected to play just one match per week for large parts of the season, the club do not believe reinforcements in central midfield are currently necessary.
A move for another midfielder would likely only be reconsidered if Enzo Fernández were to leave Stamford Bridge.
It was also understood that Scott had turned down Bournemouth’s second contract proposal two days earlier, leaving talks over a new long-term deal unresolved.
Despite Chelsea’s interest in strengthening the midfield at the time, Bournemouth’s refusal to sell has contributed to the Blues reassessing their plans, with a deal now appearing far less likely before the transfer window closes.
