Reece James has reacted to Chelsea’s narrow FA Cup final defeat against Manchester City after Pep Guardiola’s side secured a tense 1-0 victory.
As earlier reported by Softfootball, the decisive moment came through Antoine Semenyo, whose goal handed Manchester City another major trophy following a tightly contested encounter between both sides.
James, who recently returned to training after a lengthy injury absence, reflected on the performance by admitting the result was disappointing but insisted Chelsea competed strongly throughout the match.

Looking beyond the scoreline, the Chelsea captain explained that he felt his side matched Manchester City’s intensity and went “toe to toe” with the Premier League champions during the final.
In his comment:
Firstly, it is disappointing to lose. If you take a step back and you look at the game and not the scoreline, we matched them and went toe-to-toe. In the first half they probably had a lot of the ball but it wasn’t really hurting us and they managed to score off a half chance in the second half.
As reported on Chelsea’s YouTube channel, the defender also spoke about the challenge of returning straight into such a high-pressure game after spending around two months out injured.

James admitted it was difficult physically and mentally to come back directly into an FA Cup final but stressed that he gave everything possible to help the team:
It is difficult to come back after two months and walk into a final, against such a good team. I tried everything and done everything I could.
Discussing his midfield role during the match, the England international acknowledged the demands of adapting quickly after injury while trying to influence a major final against one of Europe’s strongest sides.
James also took time to apologize to Chelsea supporters for the team’s recent performances and disappointing run of results.
